Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy for Aesthetic Medicine – COMING SOON!

Regenerative Medicine

At Northeast Knee and Joint Institute, we advocate for the healing potential that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can offer. Our offices offer PRP Therapy for medical applications, such as treating conditions like osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal injuries, and more. PRP therapy is a process that uses your own body’s plasma to repair an injury. A sample of your blood is drawn, then placed in a centrifuge to isolate the blood platelets from the rest of the blood’s components. This creates a platelet-rich solution, which is then injected back into the area in need of repair. This process creates a stronger concentration of the blood’s naturally occurring growth factors which then is used to encourage the body to heal itself. But did you know PRP can also be used for other purposes?

According to the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, Aesthetic Medicine uses non-invasive to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to improve the physical appearance and satisfaction of the patient. It’s important to note that the dermatological benefits to using PRP Therapy for aesthetic reasons can vary from person to person.

A few examples of dermatological conditions that can benefit from PRP injections are:

  • Alopecia
  • Facials
  • Hair Loss
  • Skin Aging
  • Stretch Marks
  • Wound Healing

Aesthetic Medicine is often considered to be an elective form of treatment because the benefits may not directly correlate with a health or medical condition as a form of pain relief. However, more practitioners are offering elective procedures because the results still fulfill a need, and therefore still benefit their patients, even if not in a physical aspect.

The Long Run

Having an elective procedure done for cosmetic reasons to treat a condition like acne scarring may seem like a non-emergent need compared to the pain and limitations of a condition like osteoarthritis. However, the long-term effects on the patient’s overall wellbeing can be directly tied to the reflection of themselves and their appearance is an important factor in their overall health.

That is why Northeast Knee and Joint Institute has decided to offer PRP Therapy for Aesthetic Medicine. We realize that these services could drastically improve the quality of life for so many more patients in Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Tri-State area. At Northeast Knee and Joint Institute, we have seen the positive impact that our platelet-rich plasma injections have made on our patients as a form of pain relief and symptom management, so we want to be able to continue to provide the best possible care options that we can!
